5 Ingredient Healthy Chocolate Cookies

Health Fun Fact

We as a society eat way more refined sugar in our diets than our parents or grandparents ever did, because it’s everywhere around us! The natural sugar from the bananas won’t spike your blood sugar levels as much as refined sugar would, meaning your insulin levels won’t spike either. This increase in blood sugar and insulin causes a crash in both later on, which will give you more sugar cravings - and the cycle repeats. This blood sugar roller coaster through the day leads to inflammation in the body, leading to obesity and a multitude of diseases later on in life like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. That’s why I try to use bananas or applesauce (or even honey or maple syrup) to sweeten my recipes whenever I can, because they have a lower glycemic index and won’t spike your blood sugar levels as much!

If you’re looking a quick, easy and super healthy snack, this is it! 🍪 These 5 ingredient chocolate chip cookies are sweetened only with bananas so they’re refined sugar-free, paleo and gluten-free, making them the perfect snack! Also the perfect way to use any leftover brown bananas you have laying around! 🍌

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium ripe bananas

  • 3/4 cup organic gluten-free oats

  • 1/4 tsp natural vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 tbsp cacao powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • Optional: 1/4 cup chocolate chips (try to buy natural chocolate chips with as few ingredients as possible, I love Hu Kitchen’s chocolate chips because they’re naturally sweetened with dates)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 355F

  2. In a medium bowl, combine all the ingredients together

  3. If you’d like to add chocolate chips, mix them into the batter

  4. Scoop batter onto baking sheet (makes about 6 big cookies or 8-10 smaller ones)

  5. Bake in the oven for 12 minutes! Enjoy 💛
